Foundation Programme In Design Thinking

If you’re a registered student under the age of 35 and a current undergrad (in your final year) or postgrad (currently enrolled) or graduated in 2022 and looking to enhance your skills to become more competitive in the job market, this is for you. 

The Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika* at the University of Cape Town is hosting an interactive course called Foundation Programme in Design Thinking.

This course will introduce you to the key mindsets and problem-solving methodologies of design thinking. You will also learn how to develop innovative human-centred solutions in agile, multidisciplinary teams.

The classes will take place at the HPI d-school building at UCT Middle Campus. 

This course will help you:

    • Enhance your skills for the future world of work. 
    • Introduce you to working in diverse teams. 
    • Build your creative confidence. 
    • Teach you new digital learning tools. 

d-camp day

d-camps allow you to experience what the programme is about and help you decide if it is right for you. Successful applicants need only attend one of the d-camp days. Final students for the Foundation Programme are selected after the d-camps are complete. You must attend one of the d-camps in order to be considered for final selection. 
You will be invited to one d-camp day at no extra cost.

  • DURATION: 9 Weeks

Entrance Criteria:

  • Applicants must be registered students at any institution of higher learning in South Africa.
  • Applicants must be in their final year of Undergraduate study or currently within their Postgraduate studies.
  • Students who graduated in 2022 (undergraduate or postgraduate) will also be eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be aged between 18 to 35 years old.
  • All programme sessions will be conducted in English. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Commitment to being available and present for the full sessions.

Course Content:

  • Introduction to design thinking.
  • A human-centred and empathetic design practice.
  • Working on challenges connected to real world problems.
  • Practising creative confidence.
  • Creative work in remote teams.
  • Experience with online collaboration tools.
